What field of view settings are you guy's using ?

After many hours playing casual gt7 and acc on my tv with a g29 wheel i started to to take it moreserious and started to race LMU . I bought a Next Level Racing rig and blew my mind when i found out about field of view and distance to screen and stuff. Amazing hoe much of q difference it makes. I followed the calculators but they don't exactly do it for me. I now run a 32inc curved screen with a distance of 50/55 cm (20/21,5imc) from my eyes wit a vertical fov of around 50/54 . But I'm still figuring out what i like best. What about you guy's, any advice ?

Calculator for me says fov 36. I have it down to 30 and it is perfect. You have to get use to it being lower.
Once you get use to it and stick with it, your golden, I also have the seat pitch set -7.0 and -7.5 for about most cars.
Trying to keep the seat pitch lower or down to 0 just doesn't work, tried many times has to be higher.
I drive without the wheel showing, but when setting fov and seat position get the onscreen wheel to come close to matching yours.
You have to set your look left and right on your wheel d pad or buttons for the mirrors, I am putting up an image so you can see why, it's nice to see the inside of the car when driving but it is not that way in real life and it will hurt your driving, you just can't judge anything using the high fov, I have been there and done that.
Take a look at the image, you want to be there. That is the screen. That is what you want to see.

What about those cars that have a display on the steering wheel that contains information?
 
I use the wheel 😃
Mostly if not always a gt3 driver.
You can use any steering wheel, it's not a bad thing, it's just a preference for me.
quite a few people use the steering wheel in the picture others don't I personally use the steering wheel view
because my own physical steering wheel is well below the screen
but I need to try those fov settings of yours how they work with track ir 5. with that I have to keep the game driver's seat quite close to the steering wheel thanks for the tip
 
I use the wheel, just not the hands - far too obtrusive.
Same with me. The hands block quite a lot of the view in some cars.

I have a 32" monitor about a metre from my eyes, fov set to 43 degrees. I used an online calculator and it gave two fov values, one horizontal and the other vertical. I initially used 25 degrees but it felt too zoomed in and I couldn't see corners and apexes well at all. I tried the other value of 43 degrees and it was significantly better. Allows me to see corners better. I also move the seat backwards and adjust height sometimes.

Thanks, i changed the seat and it feels better . i set my fov to 43 as the calculator said . it feels like i miss a lot of sight , i guess i need to get used to it.
 
Would a ultrawide be a solution ? or a biger screen perhaps

Bigger screen is basically always better, but any single screen you're going to need to bump up the FOV a bit from correct, or just learn to live with having less visible.

It's certainly worth experimenting with lower FOV, but never to race with it making you feel claustrophobic or blind. I personally found it amazing to have everything life sized, but it takes a fair bit of power and memory to run triples or even a single large ultrawide so just try to find what works best for you.

Yeah i have a Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti 8Gb so i'm not sure i can run a triple setup . Thanks for the reply

This is what I tried explaining, I found with a single monitor that going to a higher fov than atleast calculated fov is not good, everyone is thinking higher is better and I found just the opposite.
The calculated view on a single monitor doesn't seem to be a normal view so making it higher doesn't help.
What I found with my view is a more realistic view of what you see sitting in a car looking straight ahead without moving your eyes or head.
Driving with the higher fov on a single monitor is like driving from the back seat, driving with with the lower fov is more of a normal view in real life, I found with my view you actually have more control of the car also, it's not just the view, for instance with the higher fov you can just touch the rear of another car and automatically spin out and crash with no way to save the car, with my lower fov you can you can touch or even hit hard and not go spinning out, it is much more realistic.
You just have to get used to it.
 
I have single monitor 32 ins 2k I use a track ir5 device it helps in turns when you can turn your head to look in the direction of the bend
with fov adjustment you can increase the feeling of speed because in simulation it is always worse than in a real racing car

First thing I would say, is make sure the calculated figure is correct. I know there are lots of calculators, so it should be difficult to get it wrong, but don't be afraid to throw simple trig at it to confirm it's correct.

e.g.
Measure your screen height, halve it. Divide that by your distance to the screen. That's just a ratio so any units (cm, inches, metres) will do as long as you measure both the same way.
Get the inverse tan (or 'atan') of that ratio. That's the angle half your screen height occupies.
Double that figure. There's your vFOV.

Second, using a lower FOV than that correct value is like driving around with magnifying glasses on. It's in no way a realistic representation of the game world, and is reducing your peripheral vision for no reason. You'll have a lower sense of speed too. It may be an advantage in picking a braking point because it's stretching your view, though it's also pushing potential braking point references out of sight.

Third, youtube videos of your viewpoint will only look "your correct" way to someone else with the same monitor size and distance as you (or a different combination that works out to the same FOV). Probably 80% of people won't even expand it to fullscreen.

I made the youtube video and replied to him because he had the same monitor size and distance that I have.
I am talking 6 degrees lower than calculated, not a ridiculous amount.
Certainly everyone should choose what they want.
I pointed out what I thought about going to a higher fov as answer to what everybody that doesn't like or can't drive at thier current
fov usually resorts to might be the wrong way to go, I did it myself for a very long time.
Should probably add that I do know the magnified look your speaking of and I do not have that.
