Known Issue [UI] Speaker Configuration keeps coming back to "Speakers" mode

This issue is known and being investigated by the developers.
Here also always coming back to speakers as well but I just go out at the sounds settings page and the game switch the config back. I don’t need to quite the game to get back to speakers.
But for me I clearly hear sounds differences. It also seems “auto“ switch to headphone and this settings as correctly persisted.

Sound card:
-Logitech PRO X wireless at 16bits 44.1kHz or 48kHz. It can't go higher than that.

trace.txt
I had all .mhr files version 1.18.2 in G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Le Mans Ultimate\UserData\HRTF\custom folder 44.1 and 48kHz
I have also tried the 1.19 (said to be 24bit) versions

trace - after delet ...txt
Deleted custom folder, selected default HRTF, selected headphone, change between tabs... speakers again when I go to sound tab.

After, I changed to another sound card:
-Creative X3 with 32bits 48kHz
-wired headphones.
-irc_1045_48000.mhr from HRTF_OAL_V1.19.0
I can set Headphone and setting is fixed there.
I can select my mhr files in \custom folder.
Looking at the logs of the actual game, it did not update HRTF selection to my selected file. Log only shows my HRTF file selection after game restart.
trace - wired headphone.txt

Hi

So I noticed this in the players Settings.json file:

"Number of output channels":1,
"Number of output channels#":"-1->Use Windows Control Panel Config, 0->Headphones, 1->Speakers (Auto-Layout)",

And in my Windows configuration it has this:

The Logitech G533 are headphones, so I'm wondering why Windows classes them as 'Speakers'.

Maybe this is a Windows thing - not sure, but am going to look into it a bit more.
EDIT: So it could be a Windows bug; seems to be a lot of chat about it on the interweb.
Reinstalling the device driver did nothing.

EDIT:
I also have Logitech G Hub Version 2024.7.625196 installed

OK Final edit:

Edited the Settings.json file to this:

"Number of output channels":0,
"Number of output channels#":"-1->Use Windows Control Panel Config, 0->Headphones, 1->Speakers (Auto-Layout)",

Started LMU, went to settings, the Configuration had 'Speakers' in it.
Opened up the Settings.Json file and it was set to this:

"Number of output channels":1,
"Number of output channels#":"-1->Use Windows Control Panel Config, 0->Headphones, 1->Speakers (Auto-Layout)",

So something in the game is forcing it to Speakers.

In my case was that in headphone mode LMU could not apply the selected HRTF profile with my logitech headphone. It was in the logs.
With the creative it worked.
The only difference I could think of is bit depth. logitech being 16bit and creative 32bits.

The game uses the default output device set in Windows. In theory the game asks Windows what the default output device is, and what kind it is. If it's reported as Speakers that's Windows/Logitech's "fault".
Aren't those headphones the kind that have multiple drivers in them that try to mimic a surround speaker setup? If they are that might be the case why they're reported as Speakers, and also why you shouldn't use the HRTF with them.

.... That's actually a really good point.
Maybe it's not an 'issue' per se (for me at least)

Thanks for posting :)

Finally discovered a "fix." When you go in to change it to Headphones, change something else as well, in the sound config. For example, if your Onboard Volume is 55, then change it to 56. It's finally been saving after driving me nuts since I bought LMU.
EA WRC has something stupid like this where you can't save unless something is changed, so I thought to try it.
I don't know if it matters, but I'm running Default HRTF in-game and Dolby Atmos outside of game and plug-in headphones.

Will see if they can reproduce this.

This didn't work for me.

If you edit the settings.json and set
"Number of output channels": -1,
"Number of output channels#": "-1->Use Windows Control Panel Config, 0->Headphones, 1->Speakers (Auto-Layout)",

It will use Auto and survive a restart. Setting to 0 will revert to 1 on restarting LMU.

We're almost into July now and I still have this issue. I see that it's a known one but as we're moving to 1.0, will this be fixed? I find it truly annoying that I cannot change the sound profiles of this game to best suit the output of my choice.

This is a problem with Logitech. I solved it by uninstalling the gHuB driver, and the Microsoft driver should be in Device Manager. The problem is that Microsoft detects the headphones with logitech driver as speakers, so LMU switches to speakers.

Can you still use the headphones in ghub once you do that? I have a custom EQ configured for them in there (Logitech G Pro X wired)
