Stop Go penalty ERROR

If you run out of VE in the race you rightly get a stop and go - but as you have run out of fuel you need to pit!!!
See the problem????
You serve the stop/Go at that stop and cannot refuel, so your race is over.
Nice waste of 1.5 hours of my life…

Normally you can serve it within 3 laps, so in your race you should be able to choose, or the game automatically fuel you unless you override it.

You have 3 laps to serve a penalty. Your Pit Stop Hud gives you the option to either serve the penalty or take a regular pitstop. As you stated, you CAN override the order of pitstop/Penalty. The correct procedure(other than NOT running out of VE) would be to refuel & take tires/repair damage, and then come back in the next lap to serve the penalty. Sounds Draconian doesn't it? WEC wants it to hurt and hurt bad. VE is more important than actual fuel. We users need to learn to pay more attention to the VE than the gas tank.
If a driver sets his fuel/VE ratio so tight that he risks running out of VE, then it is the driver that wasted 1.5 hrs, not the sim.

I did try to look at the HUD but didn’t see anyway to overide it but I ran out in the pit lane so was a bit flustered.
The only reason I ran out was I was blocked by a group of 5 HY cars and had a fellow GT3 behind me so had to risk another lap. I had enough I though and tried fuel saving but annoyingly I was hit off and had to drive around and back in the track so added 100m or so which meant I was 59m short of the pit line.
Not ideal but if you can choose it should possibly be in the form of a pop up option, rather than something you go searching for.
After all your put crew in real life would just do the right thing without your input, so it would be a driver input.

It used to be the first entry at the top of the pit menu (when it was activated).I'm not sure where it is now with the revised pit menu.
Already raised in another thread:

What if you don't have the three laps available?
You forgot to stop for refueling, you have one lap of fuel left, but before completing the lap and returning to the pits you receive the SG.
At this point your race is over, you can't refuel and you don't have enough fuel to do a new lap and return to the pits.
This is not a bug, it's an error in the compilation of the event, it could be solved in 30 seconds, or not?

Eh?

As above: use the HUD to disable the S&G penalty. Put fuel in. Go around again. Serve S&G.

I think they would stop scoring you. That is an interesting situation. We have to re-inforce that WEC is dead serious about Virtual Energy. If you run out on the last lap...you are done.
As far as not serving a penalty within the last 3 laps, the general procedure is to add time to your finishing position. This could be something like adding 100 seconds + 20 seconds(whatever the pitlane delta is) Or they could add a lap of penalty time such as 3:30 at Le Mans.

That's why you get 3 laps to serve it. Even if you forget the first time around, you can still pit next lap and then serve the penalty the lap after that.

Regarding virtual fuel running out, yeah, that's a real life problem they have to manage as well - and the penalty is severe there, but similar in-game. You have 2 options, really - either realise you're a little short early enough and start saving, or take the penalty.

hi Ho3n3r, thanks for the hint but I can't find the button.
Can you show me the HUD part that handles disabling the SG?

It appears as the first entry in the PitStop page of the MFD when active. Change to No to not serve SnG but carry out normal pitstop.
I could have done with knowing this earlier tonight when I was at the Fuji 40 min race. In 1st place GT3s, low fuel about to pit. Then got a S&G on the final hairpin before the start finish straight. I did not know about deferring the Stop and Go until the next lap. Shan't make that mistake again! LOL

Just as a heads up I got a stop and go with 2 laps to go in second place, figured the race ends in 2 so I won't come in because it's not 3 laps, well got disqualified at the end so no matter how many laps there are left you have to serve the penalty even on the last lap before you cross the finish line.

The three lap requirement is the maximum laps that can be driven to serve the penalty. If you only have two laps left, you must serve the penalty prior to the race ending. IF....IF...you come into the pits on the last lap to serve the penalty, and your pit stall is past the Start Finish line, you also would have failed to comply with the requirement.
Penalties cannot be ignored even if inconvenient.
