Ranking-System

To give an example for the sheer idiocy I encountered, I'm the blue car, the Aston spun in front of me and this is how much I avoided him going off track, but he still caught me going full speed in reverse instead of just waiting a moment

Why not pair drivers with similar safety rating together? that would sort out this mess quickly because "naturals" who absolutely refuse to learn how to drive behind someone without contact will never get out of their hole.

That’s what Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced are for.

No system will ever be perfect though.

no, that's not the same

in Beginner Races you have Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum drivers in the same race. Half the Bronze drivers will never reach Silver because they have no patience or discipline
in Intermediate you have Silver, Gold, and Platinum drivers. A certain percentage of the Silver drivers have only reached Silver so they can show their elite skills (read: "wreak havoc") in a higher class

If you would group only the same class together there would still be flaws, but at least you could compare the drivers. And I don't think many people with Gold and higher drive like idiots.

I’d say there’s some confusion here.

Racecraft is definitely a combination of DR and SR, but having a high SR doesn’t automatically make someone a better driver — it usually just means they take fewer risks. I speak from experience. I’m DR B3 / SR P3, and last week in Bahrain, I caused an incident by missing my braking point. I didn’t want to — but it happened. And in the end, the other driver retaliated and took me out (he was SR S2, by the way).

I posted the incident in a Facebook fan group (link below), and I was rightly called out for not giving the position back. At the time, it didn’t even cross my mind — even though the driver was a lap down (I was P8, he was P12).

That’s exactly why splits are based on DR — so that faster drivers are grouped together and slower drivers can race others of similar skill. SR alone doesn’t reflect racecraft — it just shows who manages to avoid incidents, not necessarily who makes the best decisions on track.

Nothing justifies retaliation. I hope you reported the other driver.

Yes, I reported the player — and judging by his reply to the post, it seems he won’t be coming back to the game.

But just to be clear, my intention in sharing the post wasn’t to bash or target him. It was to highlight why splits shouldn’t be based on SR alone. Accidents still happen — even with high SR drivers — and more importantly, you’d end up with situations where players can’t improve their DR because they’re constantly grouped with much faster drivers.

That’s why DR-based splits make sense: they help create more balanced fields where players can grow at their own pace.

If I may ask, what would be different if split had been SR based?

So you'd caused a race incidence, big deal (happens to everyone) but how that implies that Bronze drivers (half of which cause 90% of the issues) must be put in the same race as Silver, Gold, Platinum drivers, that part eludes me.

Well, splits based on SR could cause issues. For example, I’m almost at 100% P3 SR, but my DR is a low B3, I'll say around 25% — which means my racecraft is still developing compared to other drivers with similar SR but higher DR (like Silver or Gold).

If splits were based on SR alone, I’d end up in top splits, but I’d be outpaced and probably finish last every time. That creates frustration — and I say this from experience.

More importantly, the DR-based system controls how points and SOF (Strength of Field) are distributed. If we switch to SR-based splits, we risk having top splits with lower SOF than the ones below, which would mess with progression and ranking accuracy.

I totally get your point — you want to race with drivers who respect space and fight clean, and I agree 100%.

But for now, until rankings settle and more players find their level, there’s always going to be a mix. The best way to help improve things right now is by reporting players when they cross the line.

I agree with you. I'm not quick (B3) I can probably get to B2 but I doubt any further than that, but I try to race fairly and genuinely try to avoid incident not always successfully! My safety rating is S2 and climbing (have not done all that much online yet) but I don't want to end up in top splits all the time as I simply would never get anywhere and I'd soon get demoralised. I was in the top split at Le Mans today in the WEC experience intermediate races, it was fun but there is no way on gods (or anyone elses!) earth that I'm going to be doing the 3:55's required to be near the top of that field. I need to be in a mid split or perhaps slightly higher, that would not happen if my safety rating continues to go up and the splits were done on SR. In fact I could see a situation where some people would "manage" their safety rating to avoid that, and that would be entirely counterproductive.

Currently, I have three hypercar drivers in every race who are grazing me because they don't want to lose a tenth of a second, how is that any better?

B3 is higher than B2..... ;) S1 would be next. I'm B3 too. Have been for all but about a week of my time on LMU (which is basically since the start) when I dropped to B2. B3 is fine. It's where I belong. I'm also SRP3 and I really don't want any change to the process so that it uses SR instead (or as well as) DR. I believe I'm pitched pretty much where I ought to be when I race online.

Oh well that makes me feel better! I am at least heading for S1, will I get there is the question!

1. inevitable contacts at the start in day races until the third corner. Note that for all 20 minutes only three cuts and 2-3 contacts.

Now a week of track in Portugal on lmp2, and 90% of newcomers do not know what is cold tyres and on the first turn always 2 cars turn around, on the third (the one that 90 degrees) repeatedly. avoid contact is simply impossible, if not you, then you hit.
2. pay attention that this is bronze, not some platinum, where the price of experience and mistakes are different.
That's what you cut multiple times and the contact is what kills the sr. 11 races and I'm already s1.

On a single class car maybe, but on multiclass I don't think DR helps. 4 of my 5 last races end up not finishing or ending last because some HY destroyed my car. I still think they need to find a better way to match the multiclass.

I think the only real long-term solution is to implement DR per class. That would truly set LMU apart with something unique.

If this is going to happen, it needs to be introduced now, while the player base is still shaping its profiles.

Of course, players who already raced should retain their current global DR, since it would be nearly impossible to track what class they focused on until now. From the patch forward, DR would progress separately per class — Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3 — and only new races would count toward the relevant category.

Yes, it might feel a bit grindy, but this would solve the imbalance and confusion with driver ratings across different car types. More importantly, it would create a real sense of progression, almost like a career mode, giving players more to work toward.

I've been hoping for this for some time now. I think having a separate DR for each class will also allow those who fear messing up their DR built up on one particular class to try others. That was my biggest issue when I wanted to try the P2s but was nowhere close to racing at the DR level that racing the GT3s brought me to.

I think aside from a class DR they need to change the races a bit, especially for HY cars. First I would make driving some races in the slower class in multiclass races a requirement to later drive HY cars in multiclass. So drivers experience driving on the "receiving end" and know how a slower class car behaves. Additionally I would add always a HY cars only race to the schedule so people wanting to drive HY cars can do so without having to do it in multiclass.

It’s such a relief to realise that, instead of improving the system and making changes, they’ve started banning players when they get rammed in the first corner :). Well, I suppose I don’t understand a thing, and I’ll have to play LMU 2 again so they’ll finally fix the system :)
