Pit crew animation

I came across an interesting statistic a few weeks ago. 12% of GT7 players have tried multiplayer and 9% play multiplayer regularly.

It looks like LMU is heading to consoles. I can’t imagine console players in 2026 will accept a glowing red box as a pit crew replacement.

If 397 wants to succeed in the console market, it will need to provide a compelling single player experience, and that includes realized pit crews.

Codemasters provided pit crews for player and AI in 2009. No reason not to do so in 2026.
Except there IS a reason. Two at least.

First is cost. Even with the 2.5million chipped in this year, the finances are incredibly strapped. Filming, digitizing, and then adding them in is not a cost a small company can absorb and we all know how tenuous the S397's parent corp finances are.

2nd: Framerates. The LMU physics calculations include an incredible cost to framerates. Everytime some graphic improvement is added we see fps drop.
Currently many users complain about framerates dropping when passing empty Pit Areas. Imagine how bad it would be with a full compliment of little scurrying ants scurrying around.

Games that are light on math can add the graphics. Sims that hungrily consume the resources of most current systems will have problems.

I do agree, it would add immensely to the track environment. Just would be VERY SURPRISED if they could pull it off.

I would like that the crew member who is waving his hand to let you out of the pits, also shows some hand signs "to immediatelly stop the car" if there is some other car coming down the pit road, to avoid possible collision. Would it be possible to implement that?

And maybe if this sign of stopping the car is not obeyed, some possible penalty of "Usafe release" could be applied to the driver.

And please can some one teach the pit crew guy to put his overall on the right way... NOT backwards :p(I know it's a cross over from rFactor but it just looks so damn funny)

Glad I am not the only one that noticed that. It looks like his butt starts just below his belly-button and ends just below the small of his back! Also, all of the other trackside characters look like they are not correctly scaled. They are noticeably smaller than in other sims like ACC.

Then there is the issue of the marshalls’ flags. They look like the cheap national flags that are handed out at parades.

It offers them nothing and more importantly offers them no revenue, it means nothing to me, would rather have a box, and plenty of other things over an animated crew.

One thing I'd like is for the pit crew guy that shows you the way to exit the garage to do something even F1 Challenge mechanics knew how to do: if there is car going through the pits he would show you to stop exiting the garage until the car passes. That is my only gripe with pit crew, I don't really care about animated guys changing my tires. Also on the topic of pits: I'd like for penalties to be applied (at least SR penalties if race penalties are not possible) for people who exit the garage into the traffic and crash or for people who crash into you while work is being done on your car because they think you'd be gosted for them to pass into their spot

i know this is supposed to be a fully sim focused game but atleast a few npc's changing the tyres and refuelling the car while in the pits would look real nice and for a next generation simulator pit crew animation is genuinely supposed to be implemented.the game would be wholesome if the DEVS actually added them in the next update and a lot of people are sure very much interested in adding pitcrew animation just like me.Studio 397 devs come on please do bring the animations......!!!!!! #pitcrew #pitcrewanimations !!!

Honestly if they just told me WTF was going on during a pitstop I'd be happy, if you have any damage or fuel to add I have to do mental dead reckoning to figure when the pitstop might end, and then get unceremoniously dropped off the jacks which I almost never predict right.

Problem is the pit area is not the best optimise in LMU there's always big fps drops in those area's especially when other cars are in it so putting active pitcrews in would just kill it.

It's easier than you think, the highest number of seconds is the total time that you'll spend stationary, rounded up and down to a second. So if you see like:

Tyres; 8 seconds
Fuel; 32 seconds

The pit stop will be 32 seconds, not 40.

8 years ago another racing title released this in to there game.

And 8 years later their graphics engine is so awful, that I have to remove all pit details (and lower tracka and grandstand) and more for good VR performance. LMU is so much better optimized for objects and details around the track.

Which means that pit crews might also be light on performance unlike iracing, which is a very, very bad example in this discussion.

I just think these pit crew animations would have big performance hits for basically no real gain. Pits already are pretty badly optimized without em.

Not only that but also enforce you to drive on the left until you are at your box, instead of the straight diagonal line everyone takes to the "red arrow" since there is literally nothing blocking you from doing so. Animations could be optional and client side only, and if they are turned off, would show only the static models for blocking the other cars spots
