Penalty

Hi all, just registered for a daily race. The race started a few places in front of me were not filled. So i just followed the starting green zone which putted me pretty close to the car in front of me, closing the gap there was. Directly after the start i got a penalty but there is no info why i got the penalty. I guess its because i started from the wrong position allthough LMU said it was allright. Anyways, i pressed the pit button, drove to the pit stand and parked my car and...nothing happenend. No timer no nothing. So i drove back out of the pits only to see the red marker i had to come in for a penalty. I quit the race and came to the forum writing this post.
Questions: what to do if places in front are not filled and LMU directs you to close the gap allthough that will result in a penalty?
And how to perform a penalty pitstop? In the pitstop screen there was no "serve penalty" option.

You probably got a drive through penalty (DT) which means you should drive through the pits without stopping.

Only a stop and go penalty shows on the MFD, because you need to tell the game what you’re doing (serving it or not) when you stop in the pits.

class is in session:

There's def. still a bug when drivers in front are missing.
there's also weirdness with the option for selecting what to do in the pits. with or without penalty
I don't remember specifically, but it caught me out 2-3 times

This is one thing that could be addressed a little easier with an optional driving school. tutorial or introduction to the WEC rules section in the game, maybe some of it ought to be mandatory to be able to play the game. This could be blur flags, pits, repairs, penalties, start procedure etc.

Either way, a lot of people new to the game get caught out by all sorts of rules regarding speeding, penalties, how to pit etc. And they can also have an impact on our experience and ratings which is perhaps a little unfair to new players.

I do think this company have been extremely lax in not bothering with any real usable help or tutorial area, it would not be difficult.

Sadly it would not make them any money, which is all aspects of this game is about, which is therefore why it is missing.

If there's a Drive Through (also shown as [DT] in the standings), there's nothing to select, just pass through the pitlane without stopping.
if there's a Stop & Go (also shown as [SG] in the standings), you need to select and enable it in the Pit Menu, and stop in your box. It used to default to serve, but people got caught out when exceeding energy limit with less than 1 lap of fuel left in the tank, they'd serve the S&G and not have enough fuel to come back to the pits.

Thanks for the respons people! I will look better on the type of penalty next time :) Regarding the empty spots, is there a procedure to follow?

essentially you are not following anyone. But keeping pace with the car next to you. Stay along side the car that was next to you when you are first transported to the track.

Decent chance you didn't get a penalty for being out of position. The game doesn't tell you very well what the penalty is for, you could check the trace file for more info that might nail it down.

And yet another drive through penalty . Same situation in which people in from disappeared during the start. Again i had to fill the gap, which i did. During the start i was in green but directly after the start LMU told me about speeding and i had to do the drive through. Positive note: this time i actually did the drive through and was cleared afterwards so thanks for the info about that. Happy racing.

There's actually quite a few things you can do wrong on the opening of a race:

- Weaving
- Going too slow
- Going too fast
- Going out of line
- Not being in your grid spot
- Not reacting to warnings
- Not reacting fast enough to speed holding
- Jumping the start

Are you sure you didn't do any of that?

No sir, i was clean in line, doing 57 at the moment of green. The only weird situation was that people in front of me did not show up during the race. LMU first directed me to stay at my spot, leaving the big gap to the car in front of me. But then LMU started to show that i had to close the gap so i did and probably i have gained illegal places with LMU telling me to close the gap. Happend before and i think this may be a "bug" thing. If there is a gap due to people not showing up, LMU should hold me in place. If i stay in place i will receive a penalty, if i follow LMU and close the gap, i receive a penalty...dont know what to do?🤔

If that happens frequently (cars disappearing at the start sequence), you either have a network issue or your system can't handle the load when the cars are close to each other at the start.
Do note that the others would then see you rubberbanding about, which is at the very least annoying but sometimes can cause unnecessary incidents, as they try to avoid you (even if marked as uncollidable).

Emilian, when the ‘collision detection’ message comes up, does the player responsible actually get a similar message?

You know what, I actually have no idea, but they might get the same exact message (especially in a situation where there's only one other car around), or maybe the "Synchronising" message.
I do have a rule of thumb: if there's only one car moving about in unnatural ways it's usually on their side, if there's more cars (or all cars except mine) then it's on my side.

From being in that position I can mention that you get the message that you're not aligned with someone else. It doesn't say if you or the other guy is at fault.

But now with 64GB RAM I hardly ever get the message anymore, and when it happens it's from someone else having difficulties, not me anymore. But I do feel for the people having had to deal with me before.

Same here, although even with only 32Gb previously I don't recall ever getting the message (for myself).
