Online & Offline SC, FCY, and Slow Zones (Both Officials and Hosted)

These mostly affected offline racers, but here are a couple of them. One flag would end up triggering more on the restart and you could run most of a race under yellow. The AI could not keep their places nor spaced correctly which would end up creating huge gaps between two or more groups of the cars. The safety car would sometimes just not be visible. Your league admins may have been able to keep you all together when online but it sounds like they just didn't want to deal with the flags either.
We are comparing a game like rf2, which is old, to le mans ultimate. It is true that many code bases are the same, but at the same time it is also true that those codes are rewritten.
I believe there are now right resources to introduce fcy, slow zone and seftycar without the problems you mentioned.

Also you are talking about AI. Offline is one thing and online is one thing.

Other simulators have these things and they work very well.
And a similar speech for the full formation lap. Why server-side, online, I cannot activate it, despite the fact that offline it is already there?

Questions to which we are unanswered for the moment and probably will be for quite some time to come.

It is planned to implement safety cars, virtual safety cars or in the future??

Why does pretty much every other racing game, even rFactor 2, have at least a safety car, and in LMU, where Safety cars are often a deciding factor in rl race outcomes, doesnt even have FCY?

It would be a game changer in terms of strategy and in terms of Esports. The races would be so much fun with that factor, could be use as reference the F1 game, but this studio for sure would do much better!

It would be so cool as one of the first simrace platforms to implement the FCY SC and Slow Zones. Including modes for the car to manage the pace during these periods.

I mean we all know this isn't for safety measures but for the strategic and realism it would be awesome!

I love the idea of safety cars and fcy or even sector yellows that stay for a while. I will say given how safety cars work in iracing nascar it would be also beneficial to have voice chat when they fcy or safety car is out to pass the time.

We all know that these procedures are for the safety of both drivers and marshals on track but as this is a game and no one is in danger of life (the only danger is not finishing the race) we must look for alternatives to make this proposal interesting for the developers and not ask for it because “it is more immersive” or because “arbitrarily” a race director wanted to implement it, because there may even be automated situations where it works without the help of someone.

When the returning to garage option is a straight DNF, there's a stronger need for it. In iRacing, "towing" back to the pits instantly disappears you from the track and you just wait for a timer before doing repairs and coming back out on track.

In a long endurance event I could easily see people try to limp home any kind of damaged to severely damaged car, at a certain point, that FCY for any limping cars would be a good idea. And you can't demand that people accept a DNF if they can still move their car.

This is where a FCY system will be more useful in LMU than in some other sims where you can just disappear your car without a DNF.

The game has yellow flags but in most cases where there are crashes, a car(s) stuck/stopped on the track or debris, yellow flags disappears when the player(s) disconnects and turns green automatically because the track is cleared without the need to wait for it to happen by marshals.

So how do we make the use of safety procedures useful if there is no risk of losing the race due to there is no a car stuck in gravel or debris, for example?

Well, I propose that once the driver decides to DNF and leave the race, the car/debris remains tangible on track for a period of time, the algorithm determines and applies the proper safety procedures according to the location on track, amount of debris and cars involved to justify slowing the race pace and the duration time is determined by the procedure applied, i.e. if there is a Slow Zone because a car ran out of fuel, then the zone will be neutralized for 2 minutes. After those 2 minutes, the car disappears and we go back to green.

Exactly, that's what I mean, you have to give examples to make it more evident why it is requested. That one you said is very good, many people return to the pit lane being a danger on the track

Would be cool to see an accurate race control calling for full course yellows and safety cars after an incident. In addition would probably need to implement better damage so debris could be on track and have a respawn time of 3 laps and then if a car is slow/damage and going to the pits have a FCY/SC

Just had a daily race with a massive crash right on green flag - FCY and SC came out for the rest of the race! Safety car is not visible on replay, had no collisions and no rules were enforced. Almost everyone overtook the SC, cut the track and didn't do their penalties from the start. What's funny/sad is that after spending 30 min behind SC, race result still counted even though 0 laps were completed under green.

Wonder what's going on with SC feature these days?

Wasn't that tow back feature abused in a recent iRacing 24hr race by one or more professional e teams?

I saw that in the new intro vidéo on youtube?

is it implemented?

IMHO some sort of FCY/SC/Slow Zone simulation is needed for full-distance offline races, at least. Yes we know there is no safety issue, but the subsequent strategy changes and bunching the field back up is what makes long IRL races interesting. The AI in this game does make mistakes and can damage their cars , so even if there isnt visible debris left on the track, a calculated safety car period for the severity of the accident would inject a bit more excitement in.

It's a bit unnecessary for the short sprint online races that go on, but offline simulation should try to get you as close as we can, while we are sitting in our rigs anyway!

This will definitely be a game changer for whichever SIM manages to implement this for Road Racing first. I know there always many excuses why it can’t be done but seriously if Codemasters can pull it off from years ago I’m sure LMU or iRacing or one of the other leading SIMS can definitely do it. I know Codemasters isn’t perfect but it works and adds a much needed strategic element.

I was thinking for online so that we don’t have a SC everytime someone crashes, with the damage model the trigger could be debri or broken cars stuck on track. We’ve all had to avoid a tyre/wheel instead of it disappearing randomly it can stay there till the SC passes the stranded debris. Broken cars can also be left stranded there till at least the SC passes the scene of the accident. Also if 3 maybe 4 or more cars are involved in one incident then the SC is also triggered.

I’ve heard and see people calling for Redflags for immersion but with all due respect, imo that’s just dumb, especially when we all have limited time to get in the rig. Why would we want to sign up for a race, do 3 laps and then the red flag gets thrown because it’s too wet, now we have to just sit there and wait for 15mins doing NOTHING!! 🤪

I see alot potential for implementing SC and FCY.
Since parts can fall of the car like wings or tyres this could trigger an event which leads to a short FCY period, then the debris disappear and the race continues.
Same for a SC if a engine blew up, someone experience terminal demage or someone hits "retire car" outside the pits, the car wont dissappear immediately and the SC get triggered. After a short period the car gets cleared and the SC period continues to Green flag.

Yeah, especially since there is no "towing" in LMU like there is in iRacing. Any major accident, you have to try and limp that car back to the pits or else you have to retire the car fully. With this kind of environment, a way for racing to stop, collect everyone, and let the car get back to the pits without worrying about racing speed traffic, I feel FCY is pretty important here. Then debris can be cleaned off during FCY too.

quoted from official LMU Posting >>> https://lemansultimate.com/early-access-guide/

"Safety car(s), full-course yellows and slow zones are critical parts of endurance racing."

I AGREE. Without this feature, LMU will be incomplete, missing a very important strategic element not only in endurance racing - but motorsport in general.

The question is if LMU Team changed their opinion on it due to the difficulty implementing SC/FCY without it being annoying or not...

EDIT: WTF, there are videos of LMU deploying SC Online >>>
