Networking stutter?

On occasion, I'm seeing bursts of really bad performance, but only online, and only in proximity to other cars. At first glance it looks like frame drops like you'd see in any game that's over-taxed, but they're not: my FPS shows to be solidly >100 FPS. It's also inconsistent. Some races are perfectly fine. Others are really bad.

Anyone else seeing this? Is it a known issue?

Probably CPU related, as in when the main processing thread runs out of time the game will stutter. Cause can be heaps of things, some plugins, SimHub, crew chief, etc have had some issue for some recently, could depend on versions and settings.

Unlikely to suddenly be a hardware issue.

I haven’t tested for a while but was getting a graphical stuttering only when near other cars, if I hadn’t restarted windows. Don’t recall if a frame counter showed it but the Ctrl-C graph did (green histogram; the physics processing thread occupancy is shown by the purple bar). Weird one.

Possible, but I arguably have the best CPU money can buy right now: the 9950X3D. So if I'm seeing this, and it's truly a CPU problem, everyone should be seeing this.

Check the Ctrl-C graph.

It doesn’t mean your CPU is faulty or inadequate, just that something is making the thread fill the core.

Sure, that's fair. Can you please elaborate on this though? I don't know what you mean... "ctrl-c" doesn't do anything for me in-game.

You should see a small graph top-right of screen (centre screen if you have triples).

I can’t remember if you could assign it to a different key (or unassign it), but you’ll have to press Ctrl and whatever it’s assigned to.

If it's on occasion and online I have had it happen when a car around me has a latency issue.

Do you use crew chief ?
I had to kill this earlier been races and doing so may have solved a lot of similar issues I have been having

Crew Chief alone shouldn't cause you issues, I've used it for over a year now - it's actually the only add-on I use.

The problem at the moment , is the optimization of the game , that is why I was reporting in another thread my doubts about the release of version 1.0 . Also to me on some occasions the latency warning comes out when approaching other cars and the fps drops ; it is not a problem of my line because I have a 1 Gbps FTTH . These problems , for example , I do not have them on AMS2 and ACC . It should also be said that I am noticing that it is more AMD CPUs that have problems than Intel ones , always talking about optimization

Yes, that's exactly it. I've had it with many cars, or just 1 car. What's weird is that it makes the game frame rate of the entire world seem to drop, even though the rendering is showing to be a healthy 100 FPS. And it can be isolated to 1 player... if I drive near someone else (in the same race) it might be fine.

It's plausible the Crew Chief or SimHub are involved (I do use both) so I'm going to try dropping them to see if that effects anything. But AFAIK nothing about what they do or how they work should be affected by being online vs offline. Again this ONLY happens online. Offline is buttery smooth, even with a full grid in front of me.

None of the in-game telemetry has ever worked for me. "Ping", "Frame Rate", and "CPU Time" do nothing, regardless of what I map them to. I've read around here in these forums that I'm not the only one with these problems.

The frame rate is problematic (I have no issues on triples), but extremely rare for the CPU graph to not work.

Again, it doesn't appear to be a graphics RENDERING problem. So it doesn't matter if you would have 1, 3, or 12 screens. Even if this was micro-stutter (missed by the frame counter sampling) it would look like 40-70 FPS to the eye, but this looks closer to 15-20.

I'm in North America, which I'm starting to wonder if that's related to why some people see this problem and others don't. I've noticed the LMU doesn't seem to be organizing splits by ping or region. If you're in the UK and only see a healthy grid of people who live near you, it makes sense why you'd never see this.

I assume all of the LMU servers are in the UK? Or are they spread around the world? During the heights of ACC, Simracing.GP had to add NA servers because close racing was just too difficult between North America and the UK/EU. South America to the UK/EU was even worse. And forget about Asia/Australia. If LMU isn't doing any sort of grouping/filtering/sorting with regard to latency, I have to wonder if this is related.

As for the telemetry features not working, I'm not the only one reporting this... but I just tried again and CTRL-C now works? Which is weird, because if I look at the Keyboard mapping it's mapped as "C" (not "CTRL-C"). And "C" alone doesn't work. So something is still broken here. And none of the other telemetry is working, including FPS (regardless of whether or not I use "CTRL").

I also found a thread where you replied:
Whatever key you bind that to, you need to press Ctrl as well (so the default F key, means Ctrl-F).

Caveat is: it tends to not work for people, especially if you don't have triples, from what I've read. So might be better with something else, like perhaps the steam FPS counter (is that what Steve is using above? I don't know, I have triples, so I just use Ctrl-F when I need it...).
I am not using triples... which is an interesting bug (usually triples cause problems, not solve them). So that's possibly related.

I was referring to the frame rate display (Ctrl-F) above, not 'bad framerate'.

Also, I'm in Australia so have worse pings, and pings are never related to stuttering.

I started using crewchief only a few weeks ago and I had the problem your having long before that, only on occasion like you say.

Thanks, this is helpful. And that makes sense, as there should be no difference between online/offline play for apps like CrewChief and SimHub.

I had some major stutters a few days ago when there was a pending Windows update. Whenever there's a Windows update pending LMU always gives issues. Here's a link to the video I took, is your issue similar to this?

This was offline, but it's possible a Windows update is causing issues for you only in online races. I haven't done online races in a while so can't say if they also stutter.

No... what you're showing in the video looks like a game-breaking pause that lasted 1.5-2 seconds. That is a lot worse than what I'm seeing, which is just like really low FPS (but without the actual rendering FPS dropping).
