Most Worthwhile PC Upgrade

AMD has introduced the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, a 6-core, 12-thread processor based on the Zen 4 microarchitecture, enhanced with 3D V-Cache technology to boost gaming performance. The processor is exclusively available in the US through MicroCenter, priced at $299.99, and sold only as part of a bundle. This bundle includes the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, an ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus Wi-Fi motherboard, and a 32 GB (2x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 memory kit, with the total bundle cost set at $450. When purchased separately, these components would total approximately $630, offering a significant $180 discount in the bundle.

I might be building a PC for my work and actually noticed Intel were pretty good these days. I used to think it was X3D or bust, but looking at say the 13600kf it doesn't seem to give much away considering it's not X3D. Similar price to Dom's I think. My main focus was compiler performance, but it's interesting to see (since you're no longer talking only AM4 motherboard) that you can still get good gaming performance out of them. Anyway, sorry for the off topic Dom.

In terms of GPU I have the 6700XT for my 3440*1440 monitor. Though from the sounds of it I'm not that far ahead of you with it, so maybe you'd want to save up and get something better. I can lock to 120 fps if I have reflections and shadows low with 12 cars drawn. I have ultra track and my car and low for many other things.

I think you did right with the CPU for best bang for buck. At this point if you want to upgrade GPU I'd be looking 7800XT minimum. Maybe 7900 GRE. Or I hear 4070 Super is meant to be best value these days. But it's still heaps of money I think. The 6700XT is a beast of a card and the most I'd ever spent on a GPU. But it's less than half the price of many of the options that would give a meaningful improvement.
Thanks. At the moment I’m in a bit of a stalemate with the lady over a new monitor so I’ll be waiting/saving for a 34” UW first. I’d go bigger but it doubles as a screen for work and I fear a 38” UW might be too big and awkward to use.
Hopefully by then the new gen of gpus will be out and I’ll get a deal on a 7800 or 7900 card.

I got bagged for telling people to wait for 9800X3D lol ...thanks Lazza, good one (y)

It's here Nov 7th $479 = $700+AU right now 7800X3D is selling for $699 here

Slam Dunk

================

See when I made that post AMD had already lifted the 7800X3D prices back to normal but others recommended it on the price they brought that.
I also got mine $150 cheaper but that was history man and totally irrelevant.

So basically, anyone who got advised to buy 7800X3D in last months was imho bad advice and they have done their dollars.
Now their shiny new 7800X3D you just plopped full price on by December will be worth $100 less S/H.
Merry Christmas.

"lol" indeed, the 9800X3D was never part of the discussion. I'm probably one of the few actually bothering to read your ramblings, but I'm beginning to reconsider.

Me rambling and now you being personal, what do you all get together and have chats or something LMAO

It was not me saying 7800X3D is so cheap so buy it when the simple facts at that very time it wasn't. ...it was full price as it is today.

The sale had come and gone at the time I first made that statement, go check for yourself. ;)

So next time maybe you think first.

Hi all,

First off, great game, i absolutely love it. I get along with this much more than any other sim and its just overall much more enjoyable to play, which is what i need to remind myself to focus on as i am not going pro with this haha.

I recently went up from a G29 to a Moza R5 bundle (with a plan to get better pedals when the SR-P are in stock with a UK retailer) and its a world of difference. I always found myself going hot and cold with SIM racing on games like AC and ACC, i wonder if part of the reason was the wheel making it not really feel as fun.

Anyway, this is a PC question.

I "commandeered" my sons PC that we bought him when he started senior school. Its intention was work and light gaming so its a lower spec system.
AMD Ryzen 5 2400 4 core
RX6600 (added myself)
8gb x2 Corsair RAM 3200 (added myself)
1tb HDD and 125gb SSD
ASUS Prime A320M-K Mobo BIOS version 4029 (30/11/2018)
750w PSU (added myself)
I play on a 27" curvered monitor, 165hz, 1ms refresh but also plan on a 34-40" Ultrawide as it doubles up well for work.

LMU plays pretty well offline with mostly mid setting for the car, and key visuals and low on others (other cars, number of cars on screen etc) but can stutter a little at the start of race. Load times terrible, I miss the practice and qualifying on Beginner races, especially at Le Mans. I know moving games to an SSD will help a lot here so maybe a big SSD that i can put my game son will help but I'd like ot decide if i am doing a Mobo first so i can decide on what SSD I go for.

I'm considering a few upgrades but not sure which way to go. I thought about MoBo and CPU, or CPU only (will admit I'm nervous about the scale of that change, BIOS flashes etc as I've never done anything like this past clean out a PS4 and reapply thermal paste - 1 time it went well, the other time not so well).
Is it not woth just a CPU change and do i need a whole new CPU, MoBo and GPU.

I am not overly concerned with 4k or triples, and although 4k would be nice, 1440 with a high frame rate playing on mid to high works for me. I do play Final Fantasy too and the kids play ROBLOX if that counts for anything.

Any help is really appreciated as I am very much a PC noob but a fast learner and keen to improve my understanding - I've already read and watched loads and i think i know what i should do (CPU and MoBo) but it would be great to hear from some real people with experience.

Thanks in advance.
I would suggest that you figure out whether your configuration is CPU or GPU limited. There are lots of tools where you can use to get this information. Here is a video which might be a starting point.

Well rough idea anyways.............

That is why I said I would wait for 9800X3D if it was me.
$30 dearer yes but smaller bottleneck if at all ... so better bang for buck right. ( shrugs )

So my everyday monitor ( 43" Samsung Neo 144Hz ) is better combo to test sims.
