Location based servers on the way before release?

Do we know if this is happening before release or even on release? I'm betting my ping is through the roof playing in Australia in these random servers. Would be also called to have more localized service so I'm against my Aussie's and see my rankings and compare etc.

You'll likely find you're sitting around 200ms ping, game handles it pretty well against a field of Europeans. Racing against other aussies can get a bit more dodgy with the 400ms round trip, especially when one/both of you start leaving the normal lines.

This was raised fairly early on - might even be a feature request somewhere on here - and as I recall the devs didn't rule out the possibility at all. But so far it's not been a main priority, and I don't know if it would happen for 1.0.

Dailies especially would need more consistent numbers I think to support more localised servers in several regions, with the integrity of the DR system in mind. Can't have an isolated group always just racing each other, so would (I guess) need several regions so that players will sometimes shift from region to region across multiple events.

Having localised hosted servers, though, that's hopefully high on the agenda. Leagues can't run here properly without it, it's pretty messy.

Thanks @Woodee Is there a chance that high ping players won't be able to play with low ping players in the future? In South Africa we hardly have servers for online games in general and our lowest ping is to Germany or UK servers. The ping ranges from 148ms to 197ms depending on the game. I'm concerned because I read somewhere in the rules that ping shouldn't exceed 150ms.

Ok cool yeah good info thanks for that. Yeah that makes sense with the ping and against the Aussies. To be fair it's been pretty darn good other than my last race where I had some pretty choppy frame rates near the start
