Known Issue [Input] Losing force feedback when others join an online session

This issue is known and being investigated by the developers.

I searched through the forums but I didn't really see anything related to my issues. I am using an intel i9 13900kf and a 4090 and a quest 3 VR headset. My racing hardware is a VRS DF pro with sprint pedals. The issues I am having are as follows: In an online practice sessions and in race practice or race qualifying sessions, if someone joins the server, my wheel and force feedback will be lost just for a second or two. My wheel will have a quick notch feeling and the force will disappear from my wheel. Then it will return quickly and I will feel another notch or jolt as it returns. Very strange. It's is enough to completely throw me off especially while cornering. Also, when I exit online practice sessions, the screen will go black with just the border on the top and all the options do not work. The only way to get it running again is to escape and shut the game down on the windows menu. Please let me know if I am doing something wrong or if this is a known issue happening to others. Thanks.

Last first: the black/blank screen after sessions is known, can only end task and go again. I think a fix is being worked on.

The join FFB loss: historically when people join it causes a short freeze, and early in LMU there were issues (leftover from rF2) where the game freezing for a time would result in the FFB going totally bonkers insane crazy. Like dangerously.

So: they added an extra check that dulls the FFB when it detects any sort of processing slowdown/freeze, and that reacts when people join. So you'll get a jolt as the FFB drops away (I think technically it's faded out and then back in, but it's pretty quick) and comes back.

You shouldn't get this during races as people can't join races, and hopefully if/when that happens the cars will be preloaded and this won't happen. Time will tell.

You won't have found anything because this all changed in the early months, it hasn't been talked about for ages.

As far as I know this issue could be solved for rFactor (1) and also GTR2 (so gmotor engine based games) by adjusting a parameter in the player.cfg => I do not exactly how the parameter was called, but it was something like "delay join loading"
By setting this parameter the game could be forced to load new cars when you get back to the pits or when stopping your car besides the track.

Even the issue currently exists only in practice or qualifying sessions its quite annoying on large servers with many people joining and leaving.

I also expect issues when driver swaps for multiplayer races are implemented at some time. If drivers are having join lags then, whenever a teammate joins the server, there will most likely be a huge shitstorm :(

So Devs, please fix this issue!!!

The cars don’t load live, that’s why you’ll see red and blue GT3s running around that are actually hypers etc. Just like the yellow temp car in rF1 and rF2.

So the delay isn’t that loading, it’s other things happening related to the car being added. They’ve mentioned it’s something they’re looking to work on.

As usual: if it were that easy, it would have been done already.

I have this as well... a slight loss in FFB and then it returns. It is a bit annoying when you loaded the front tires and the steering wheel feels heavy and suddenly it loses all the FFB... makes you sort of steer more than intended and you "wash out slightly" happens randomly and 3-5 times in a race.

Do you have the option chosen to ONLY load skins when your car returns to the garage? This will prevent that slight pause. However you will see some generic car as long as you remain on track. like a GT3 Porsche when you are in a LMP2 only event. As Lazza wrote above, this is not a bug. Loading real time skins DOES cause a slight hiccup. For your benefit, choose to only load skins in the garage.

aha, so it is annoying by design? I thought the placeholder cars are there to AVOID such hiccups.
And where do i set "load skins in garage"?

If it loaded cars fully you’d get a proper pause, not just a small stutter and an FFB drop. Try pressing the key every time someone joins to see how it would go.

I started to have that same kind of micro lag (Display and FFB)after the Imola update if i remember correctly.
Driving on a practice server is sometimes really tricky as these micro lag can suprise you mid corner.
Would the usual logs help to debug this issue ?

As above, it’s not a bug.

I know devs have mentioned wanting to improve the loading behaviour so this pause doesn’t happen, but I can imagine that’s going to need some reorganisation of how some basic game engine elements work, and while it’s annoying it’s not game breaking, so I expect we won’t see it any time soon.

btw, i had it 3 times in the 40 min fixed LM race. Looks like when someone leaves the server - tick

when ur in a turn etc, and it happen , its a crash or a spin ...

It happen all the time during practice or hosted ! when you want to practice stint or else .. and you loose the car because of it ?? how can you prepare correctly ?

Apparently, no issues during the 6-hour endurance (as I imagine many people logged in and out mid-race). This is a very good point, as this mid-race issue would be a serious problem!

All race events (including dailies etc) load all the cars when you first load the track, because the entry list is known. So this should only be happening in Practice servers, or Hosted servers.

This was changed for Dailies for the July update, I think. Maybe earlier.
