Improvements to wet weather

Would be nice to see:
- Rubber not washed instantly from the track, so there's an element of dodging it when it starts to rain.
- Aquaplaning from puddles.
- Better interaction with kerbs when wet. Some might be painted with anti-slip. Some might be shiny and slippery. Ideally this would be represented in the sim.

- More persistent spray when air humidity is high
- Surface temp hud adjusting to the working range of the wet tyres.
- Automatic wiper to turn on when its not raining, but spray is covering the windshield
- Rain will cool down the track, also when evaporating (if not implemented yet)
 
Something I have just though about is the rain tyres.

- Reduced water displacement with increasing tread wear.
- Aquaplaning where standing water is too much to displace by current tread depth (not just puddles).
- Somewhat increased dry grip with tread wear.

So it could be an option to keep driving a wet tyre, worn down to basically super soft slick tyre when the track is cold and damp, but without much standing water.
In my opinion, this should go hand-in-hand with aquaplaning improvements as Owen suggests.
 
I don't want to go too far off the topic of LMU, but Reiza has been cooking some really good looking weather and physics for their new update:

I think it quite well shows some of the features which have been requested above for LMU, such as weather dependant on track position, humidity effects, surface abrasiveness vs wet grip, trees drying slower than the track, trailing edge vortex condensations ...

Because it has been greatly improved in the December release. I think in places perhaps the rubbered line could be more slippery, but there's a definite difference in grip on it. Rather than avoid at all costs, I now find myself just braking to the inside of the rubber and then swinging wide again for entry. As in many corners I can still take the dry line (or close to it), but when hard on brakes or throttle it is better to be off it.

That's not how it works. Wet tyres have different compound and they almost melt on equivalent "slick" normal temps, so if you use them on dry even highly worn you will still lose grip and probably puncture them or highly grain them.
 
Not to mention, the implementation of a wet line rather than just taking the dry line but with less grip.
This was implemented already, but in the latest build they greatly reduced the rate at which rubber gets washed from the track during heavy rain. You can feel the rubbered line in the wet now. But the effect could likely stand to be increased.
 
Two things:
1. I was yesterday on some privately hosted race at LeMans, track was becoming dry but was still quite wet, and when driving behind some car which was more then cca 100m infront, although I was driving in his spay, I had no drops on the windshield. Drops only appeared when coming very close, lets say bellow 100m.
2. And when passed someone, drops instantly disappear from the windscreen entirely almost in an instant. I know the speed should clear the drops from the windshield, but not that fast.
 
From what I have seen, it is currently not possible to cool down tyres by driving through the wetter parts of the road. I believe that should be quite a high priority and it would hopefully be a lot easier to implement than a full wet weather overhaul.

I believe the slicks only really cool down in the wet because they lack grip and therefore cannot build up temperature anymore.
 
In the Le Mans wet races a few weeks back when track wetness was 15% I could not cool the wet tyres by going off line on the runup from Tertre Rouge to the Playstation chicane, but could on the next bit of straight, between the chicanes, and also from the Michelin chicane to Mulsanne corner.

From what I have seen, it's absolutely possible to cool down tires by driving through the wet parts of the track. I use Tinypedal to display the surface temperature of the tires, and as soon as I move from the dry line to the wet parts of the track, the surface temperature suddenly drops
 
@Emilian Huminiuc was saying he could cool down from 1st chicane to the Mulsanne corner. But he was unable to cool tires down on the 1st straightaway towards 1st chicane.
I wonder how is that possible?

If that was the case, it would be remarkably accurate. Le Mans is famed for having completely different weather in different areas of the circuit. I've stood in front of the pits in t shirt and shorts while it has been bucketing down at Mulsanne Corner - even as far through as the Porsche Curves.

Yes, I'm pretty sure track state can vary around the track. I'm not sure if this is because weather can vary around the track or simply because some parts of the track dry more quickly thanks to camber or texture.

+ there is still missing the most important aspect of driving in the wet, which is Wet Racing Line
+ standing water (aquaplaning) effect on driving through
+ actual difference in grip level between dry and wet, when track starts to dry and the dry racing line starts to appear more and more

We have a hope in S397 to make it as real as possible 💪👍

The sounds should be improved because, when driving on rain and wet surfaces, they are the same as on dry roads. However, we know that more factors come into play in such situations, such as raindrops hitting the car or the sound of water splashing against the chassis when driving through a flooded area.
