Windows 10 next year no more security updates, I still use a windows 7 PC online, I've not had my house stolen, pension raided, bank account emptied, kids kidnapped nor wife sold off to the far east by a prince in danger.

Anyhow.

Performance wise, has anyone got any real life experience going from 10 to 11 when it comes to performance, stability or anything especialy with LMU?

Not noticed much, but I didn’t play lmu as much or as intensely as I do now. Seems about the same. Still get a few too many crashes than I would like but I can’t blame that on W11 as I have no idea why it does it.

I have a PC on 11 and a laptop on 10. I find 11 much better although it's difficult to define exactly why.... My LMU (on 11) has been pretty much rock solid from day 1.

I will add I run an amd gpu, that may be the reason for the crashes from what I’ve reason

Issue with Windows 11 is not performance i think. It is more linked to stability and their very recent link to IAs with Recall.

Base OS, executables, drivers, network are majorly the same. No real big update on pure performances i guess.

There is already an issue with some "Energy saver" dumb things which are easy to fix, and probably existed en Windows 10 in another form.

Use MicroWin or any equivalent to install it "light", fresh and debloated and you'll be good.

I hated windows 11 initially, it is illogical. Context menu (right click on desktop) requires you to click on more options or something like that to see commonly used options. Start menu takes getting used to. I found general performance heavy and sluggish. Lots of things irritated me. I went back to 10 a month after installing 11 and the improvement was immediate. However, some games I played had issues on 10 due to AMD drivers but these were resolved on 11 (can't remember the exact details). Win 11 is stable now, the irritations are still present, but I've gotten used to it. If I could stay on windows 10 I would.

Bottom line is I moved to 11 because more modern games and software seem to benefit from it. Older games run ok with a few exceptions. I can't comment on LMU's performance specifically because I've only used it on 11 and not Win11.

For context, I run a 5900x CPU, 6700xt GPU, 32GB ram, have a 2TB NVME SSD for Windows and some games, and other drives for storage and lower priority games.

Explorer patcher is not updated for 24H2 yet.

The size of that stock taskbar is homogonous ! :poop:
Look at mine below to compare, taskbar is skinnier then the LMU one.
Look at the desktop icons ( only medium ) and the taskbar icons gives you an idea how small it can be.
Web solution is to change the desktop scale ...fools.
This is 4K @ 150% which is hands down the best compromise on my 43" Samsung Neo then set "small" taskbar in explorer patcher.

24H2 on my everyday tower ( AMD 3400G ) after first cumulative update is definitely snappier so high hopes for my sim tower (23H2) once they fix explorer patcher ( touch wood ) On my everyday tower I can live with ginormous taskbar for now, uber fugly 🤪

P.S. Anyone that uses explorer patcher don't listen to rabbits okay.
You can still install this without virus detection ! so easy !
Use a OLD copy of explorer patcher, don't rename that's just old wives tale.
Install OLD copy click straight way on explorer patcher
click updates click DONT EVER UPDATE !

All she wrote folks, you won't need exclusions or anything else and explorer patcher will come up 100% CLEAN
So you can still have your skinny taskbar and devoid of icons.
So don't listen to those on explorer patcher site say otherwise ! My way works 100% !
Why explorer patcher forum ignores this work around for the time being I have no idea ?

If you want copy that does not raise virus detection PM me.

P.S. In case you noticed the custom start icon is achieved using Open Shell another essential 24H2 app
Just download this and put in "pictures" run Open Shell and select.

i have my main "other" gaming pc on win10 and my rig on win11, very similar specs, and i swap them now and them when i service the water cooled stuff and clean etc, can confidently say the win11 pc is more reliable and stable.
i dont notice performance gains as such in terms of higher fps, but I do notice far less performance lags in high load scenarios running multiple apps, windows 10 gets bogged down faster and suffers more for it.

Thanks for the info folks.

At the mo things are running very sweet, I have had no notable stability issues with LMU from day one. If it's not broke why fix it scenario and once you go win11 going back for what ever reason would require a format and start again. It seems to be though that going forwards to 11 is not going to be much different to 10.

If I want to upgrade to Win 11 from Win 10 do I upgrade my installation first and then "zap" the drives and reinstall from scratch to get a clean configuration and upgraded Win 11 "licence/key" or can I just use the Win 11 media creation tool and install onto a blank drive?
BTW I'm using a M.2 drive

Hmm - you might have missed the free upgrade from Win10 to Win11. I am using Win11 on my SimRacing PC (LMU recently, iRacing, ACC before) for years already and it works flawless.

P.S.: Are there any people around still using MS-Dos :p

As far as I am aware it's free, it's been pestering me on a weekly basis till I turned off the notification about a month ago.

From Microsoft website;

How much does it cost to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11?

It’s free. But only Windows 10 PCs that are running the most current version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware specifications will be able to upgrade. You can check to see if you have the latest updates for Windows 10 in Settings/Windows Update.

I have just picked this up from my gliding SIM forum Condor. Looks like no win11 for me for the foreseeable.

Just a warning to all Windows Mixed Reality VR headset users - avoid upgrading to the Windows 11 24H2 release which Micosoft is rolling out currently.

This release removes Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) support, means WMR is no longer included and also not installable anymore and thus renders your WMR VR headset (e.g. HP Reverb) into scrap.

That‘s indeed a good reason not to upgrade. Did read some posts that the support for older versions will be discontinued as well. The Windows way of VR doesn’t seem to be a great success. Luckily my old Valve Index HMD isn‘t affected

It's a bit strange they would do this, WMR has been flawless and probably used by more than just one or two people in the world!?

HP on all accounts have responded with.... Nothing.

Windows 11 is a worthwhile upgrade if you run overlays on top of LMU, or run an extra monitors for telemetry.

That is because Windows 10 has a known intermittent graphics scheduling issues when overlays (or other active content) are displayed on top of a borderless or windowed game, or running in parallel with another screen (e.g. game and YouTube running at same time but on separate screens).

It only occurs if a certain parameters are met (e.g. the game's framebuffer resolution and window resolution do not match, which causes Windows' Desktop Windows Manager (DWM) scaling to activate).

This issue can still occur in Windows 11, however it is much more common in Windows 10.

One way to tell is launch Windows Task Manager and see if Desktop Windows Manager (DWM.EXE) is consuming a lot of CPU and or GPU when running something active on a 2nd screen or in overlays over the game.

If you had read this thread, to then ignore the later discovered key caveat as to the very dangerous negative result if you do so?

I hate the internet sometimes.
