Track Limits @ Long Beach (RedPitLine)

Track limits at the pit exit at Long Beach: Under the official rules, aren’t cars on the racing line prohibited from crossing the red pit exit line? In LMU, however, crossing this line is allowed. When watching real-life race footage, you can see that none of the cars cross it. Why is it allowed in LMU?

You are correct, Indycar & IMSA both require cars to travel the full extent of the pit exit lane before rejoining. I personally think the Long Beach pitlane is much too long. Probably one of the longest pits anywhere.
Here is where we 'should' be exiting.

agree, this needs fixing

I think I misread the post. AGAIN. OP is talking about cars already on track using that extra lane to turn in. clearly, if the cars exiting cannot cross, the cars on track should not be able to either.

Yeah, that's the idea—no car is allowed to cross the line, or else there are penalties. At LMU, you can go really far out onto the pit exit to pull out, which opens up completely different racing lines that would never be possible in real life.
In the attached photo from the 2025 IMSA race, you can see that drivers are only allowed to drive up to the line and no further.

I wonder if they were having difficulty getting the cars to navigate the corner without widening the approach.

It would be really great if LMU would implement realistic track limits here. The advantage and the lap times that can be achieved by crossing the pit line really break the immersion.

At most tracks like famously Monza and Spa one is allowed to cross the pit line "from the outside".
Name a counterexample if you can.

So maybe "the programmer" has never considered and thus not programmed the case that you must not cross.
Get going, programmer! Then again rF2 had more tracks...

I'm no expert, but I don't think setting the track limits is that complicated. It's most likely just a matter of defining zones that need to be set correctly.

Its a double edges sword, I dont know if anyone has tried this track in AMS2 - you will get slammed for track limits at this part, sometimes it can be small margins and frustrating so I wonder if devs for online reasons decided to relax it here maybe.

I received some wired TL here. (was not exiting pit lane) and didn't cut T1
Small 0.25 but didn't understand why and didn't feel consistent since i could not replicate.

So i guess this is partially implemented. Maybe if a car is exiting pit lane you can pick a TL at this point ?
No trouble with exiting Pit lane the TL are correct

When exiting the pit box, the track limits are correct; however, in real life, you are not allowed to cross the pit line while on the racing line—yet in LMU, it is possible.
The attached real-world image from the 2025 IMSA race shows the racing line: it lies to the left of the red line.

I saw a member of staff reply on Discord. Apparently, they need to implement a separate feature for Long Beach. The more I dig into it, the more I think this engine is a tangled mess of spaghetti code.

You are jusssst now figuring that out???? :)

Looking at the file that @Emilian Huminiuc posted, the track has several different colored lines to mark where you cannot drive. But that file appears to not match the video of the IMSA event so, over time, the markings may have changed.

Imagine the howling from the fast guys when they suddenly get track limits(if this situation ever gets fixed that is...)

[...]

Track Limits

  • Updated track limits to allow for specific point penalty additions for off tracks and configurable 4 wheel or 1 wheel off detection. Updated Pit Lane to only be 1 wheel off detection on blend lines.
[...]

Long Beach

  • Fixed Paddock Fences missing when circuit detail is on medium or lower
  • Updated Track Limits at Long Beach to monitor pit exit usage from the main circuit strictly

Well now we know how the drivers got away with crossing the red line. 'WE' saw the car cross and cried foul, but the computer only saw two tires over the line, not all four. Now, with this new update, it seems the fix has been implemented.
