Shift Horizon function

Just tried Lemans Ultimate and liked it a lot, forcefeedback and graphics are outstanding.

I have set up my triple screen correctly within the files and settings, but like on rFactor2 there is no option to shift the horizon down, to make everything look correct.

I am assuming that it would look great, if i would have my screen height level with my eyes, but thats not the case. I am in a prototype seating position with my 32“ screens directly above the steeringshaft, so my eyes are a good bit lower than the center of the screens, which makes the sidescreens look weird, like they would be pointing up towards the ends.

Most other sims have a shift horizon setting to make everything look perfect around eye height with a triple screen, please please please add that to Lemans Ultimate. Its a tiny camera adjustment that adds a huge benefit for people not being able to mount theyr screens lower.

Tried all adjustment for the camera and fov, but it doesn't fix the side screens. Really hoping to see a shift horizon function soon, it always kept me from using rfactor2, and will do the same on Lemans Ultimate sadly.

As it stands right now the game is unplayable in a formula/prototype rig with triple monitors. There is no way to adjust the horizon line/centerline of the sim if your eyes are not dead center with the monitors. A lot of rigs or space limitations or monitor size requirements make it so that your eyes sit up to a few inches below the center point and this completely distorts the entire image where the side monitors meet. Everything becomes V shaped. We need the ability to lower or raise the centerline, and I am not talking about pitch (that is your drivers head tilting up or down). I can provide images if necessary.

It‘s one year later and there is still no fix for the problem, could please someone look into it? I will describe it further, hoping that some of the devs will see the need of it.

Everyone that has his triple screen mounted lower or higher than the rendered image wants it to be, will face distortions/warping on the side screens. This is probably less of a problem when being more in a gt3 like seatingposition, but becomes a huge problem when being in a more prototype (Lmp/Lmdh) like position, even more so in a F1 position. You are laid back more, with the wheelbase and pedals mounted higher in relation to your head, so the screens will also have to be mounted higher, resulting in the described warping of the side screens.

iRacing has a function called „Shift Horizon“ which displays a horizontal line from where the triple screen image is rendered, and allows you to adjust it perfectly to your eye level. This allows to have a perfectly rendered triple screen image, no matter how low or high your eyes are in relation to the screens. Please implement something like that in LMU, and make everyone in a more prototype or formula seatingposition happy.

Maybe this is a more niche problem, but being the official Lemans sim and featuring mainly prototypes, i think we should get a function to also use the sim properly in a rig like that. It would also generally help people, that have some kind of limitations on their rig, when it comes to the height of their monitors. Running a full motion rig for example can also be a reason to have your triple screens higher than Lmu‘s rendered image wants them to be.

On a more conventional Gt3 style rig with triples the problem can be replicated by moving your head to a lower position than usual, you will see the side screens warp accordingly to the change in height. The ingame triple screen settings (screen size, viewing distance, angles, bezels) does not provide any tool to effectively accommodate for that problem, just like the camera settings (up, down, back, forth, angle). They are crucial to get the fov right, but will not help with this particular problem, which makes the sim pretty unplayable for some of us.

I originally created my thread separately from yours because it has been a year since your request with 0 indication of implementing this fix. And since they added mine to yours and not yours to mine it now seems like nobody has asked for this since February 2024. Clearly not a priority for LMU so I will not make it a priority to play this game. Disappointing but not surprising, iRacing seems to be the only dev that is making features like this to support different camera angles for all types of setups. Maybe it’s my fault for preferring a prototype position in a prototype simulator but this can’t be that hard of a feature to add if they actually care to capture all sorts of sim racers.

Yeah, i commented on yours but it has been moved here, so i deleted my fist comment.

Came to the same conclusion as you in the end. Waited for it on RFactor2 (The problem been mentioned on the old forum multiple times) for years, then i had high hopes that the devs may be finally listening when it comes to LMU, tried it here and multiple times on the discord, but after one year still nothing. Pretty sad situation for a sim that features prototypes for a big part.

This way it‘s at least not hard to decide which sim we want to spend our time on haha

Honestly bro as much as it sucks I at least feel a bit better knowing it’s not just me lmao I thought I was doing something wrong with my settings. My only regret is waiting too long to refund the game

Unfortunately it's a minority of players who'd benefit from a horizon adjustment, so this will be well down the list. I'd hope it's not too hard to do, but who knows what optimizations are embedded in the graphics engine that having the image 'off centre' would interfere with.

Bearing in mind lots more people are using on-screen or actual dashboards (/wheel displays) and are still waiting for more telemetry from the game to support them, it's not too surprising this hasn't had any movement yet (and that's just one example). I know the remaining devs are constantly busy, albeit we don't always see the fruits of their labour.

Fingers crossed anyway, as mentioned above this has been a sticking point in rF2 as at least some other games are more accommodating when it comes to more 'serious' gaming setups, and this is understandably a real turn off for players trying LMU instead.

It for sure is a minority of players using these types of setups, that I agree with. I’d just think for a game wanting to capture as much market share as possible, up against pretty stiff competition, that they would want to accommodate as many players as possible. Another piece to consider, formula/prototype style rigs are usually significantly more expensive and I find users with these rigs tend to be more willing to spend money on their setups and games. Speaking for myself I would have already subscribed to the monthly service and bought all of the dlc’s if I was able to configure the best prototype simulator to match my prototype style rig. Just disappointing and makes it very difficult for me to enjoy the game or recommend to others. As I said earlier I would have refunded if I was still within that window but dev responses in the forums made it sound like this option for shifting the horizon was in the works so I stupidly waited to see if it would happen. Super disappointing all around.

Well said, the same goes for me.

I also do think, that most triple screen users would profit from that function. How many people are sitting 100% on the exactly perfect height for LMU‘s rendered triple screen picture? And how do we find out where that even is? A lot of try and error, or simply living with some distortion is the only solution right now. I bet there are not so many people out there that have magically hit the perfect height, if they are lucky enough that theyr hardware allows it. Most people simply don’t care about it that much, because it isn’t as dramatic as in our case, or they simply don’t know why exactly the general fov looks correct, while the side screens have a little kink. The asked function is pretty much a basic parameter for any triple screen, if things are supposed to look 100% correct.

I think you’re absolutely spot on that most people are not dead center. I still had to shift the horizon when I was. Another thing not really considered is people tend to set things up while in a relaxed position but things can easily change slightly while driving, especially under braking. I had to lean on the side of slightly too high vs slightly too low so that things don’t distort when I brake. After seeing how wildly misaligned a lot of my friends triple monitors are (talking to you Daniel Gray if you ever happen to find this thread) I’d bet most haven’t noticed because of a lack of attention to detail and not because it isn’t an issue they have lmao

Hello,

I speak for all triple monitor users, we NEED to get a way to shift the game's horizon, as most GT rigs can't have the middle of your 32 inch display be at eye-level (in that case your wheel has to drop much lower than it's comfortable.

I hope you have been working on the matter and I can't wait for my side monitors to not have bent lines through my middle one :)

Cheers!

I experienced the same problem even with a gt style cockpit. I hope that in future they can fix this adding a shift horizon settings. Idk why they didn t do anything yet, i think it s a easy fix.

Yes, even with GT style cockpit , if you have 32 inch monitors your eye level isn't the same as the monitor's center, it's below it. It may be ok with 27 inch monitors since they're shorter and your eye level will be higher relative to the monitor.

Can't you achieve this with moving the seat position more downwards? Or do you mean something else?
No, tilting the camera or changing the height doesn’t help at all, like i have explained at the top. Sure, it is crucial, but it doesn’t fix the warping sidescreens.

BROTHER I HAVE FOUND A SOLUTION ALTHOUGH ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS. I bought new monitors and when I was sitting in the rig really thinking about alignment I realized I was more comfortably tilting my head upward as opposed to trying to tilt forward to keep things “centered”. So what I ended up doing was flipping the monitors upside down to get rid of the bezel thickness at the bottom AND tilted the center monitor forward about 5°. Side monitors match that tilt. I loaded up iRacing and went to adjust shift horizon to look correct and now it is perfect at 0%. Huge pain but very much worth as I can now play any and all sims. Hope this helps you!!!

Another vote for this being a very important feature
I didnt realise how much i look for the apex of a corner near the corners of the screen and with the distortion on the side screens its really uncomfortable/jarring. So seamless in iracing.
Dont really want to move my monitors up either as will mean car dashes will be cut off (or dashboard height really high)
