Quest 2 VR Setup

Although I've had it a while I've never used my Quest 2 headset... partly because I wear glasses.
However I have decided to try this for LMU and have ordered some prescription correction lens to fit the headset.

I've installed the Meta Link software and Steam VR and using the USB connection method but I'm not really very happy with the results.
Any advice would be very welcome.

Ever thought about getting prescription lenses for your headset? I got some made for my Valve Index a while back.

VR will not be as clear and sharp as on monitors. But you can try to set the resolution in SteamVR a bit higher.
The RTX 3060 Ti is pretty low end for VR though.

Prescription lenses turned up...
Fitted them...
Some sort of Oculus firmware update when I turned on the Quest 2...
Broken... doesn't turn on now after update so it appears to have been bricked by the update...
I don't have the range of expletives to express my feelings on this... I'l try

Try these settings from Gamer Muscle Brother. I know these are for quest 3. But, sure they would apply to Quest 2 as well.
This worked great for me

Just as a follow-up... it seems Meta are aware that their software update at the back-end of 2024 has "bricked" many of their customers headsets. I've found numerous postings online about this now.

Good morning @trichens 🖐️ ,

I just wanted to ask out of curiosity how things are going with your Quest 2.

Do you often use the VR glasses now & are you satisfied with the picture ?

I also have the Quest 2 & I didn't really want to change my settings anymore because I'm happy with them,
even if there's a chance that the picture could be a little bit better, but I think it's great already.

BUT I watched the YouTube video & tested my Quest 2 again at 90Hz, but in the end,
I set everything back to how I had it before.

Meta Quest Link (software):

72 Hz
5408x2752

Oculus Debug Tool :

Oculus Debug Tool.png

Oh & because of the YouTube video I had deactivated the setting "(PC) Asynchronous Scale" in the debug tool,
because before I always had it on "auto", but when I activate the "Visible HUD" in the debug tool & set the setting
to "Performance", then the FPS keeps jumping from 90 to 45 & back again.

If you then set the "Performance HUD" to "Async-S..." in the debug tool, you can see
that it is switched on & off every now and then. I don't know why that is. I just noticed it.

As you can see, I reduced the FOV of the Quest 2 to save some performance.
The fact that the field of view is even smaller as a result doesn't bother me at all,
because it makes me feel even more like I'm wearing a helmet.

By the way, I only set the resolution in the game to 1280x720 so that I can still have
the "Oculus Debug Tool" open next to it. I always thought that this would save performance,
but the view isn't mirrored while driving anyway.

If you want to know all my in-game graphics settings, please let me know.
In any case, I'm happy 👍 for you & everyone who gets to enjoy SimRacing in VR.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people who get sick extremely quickly & badly.
That's why I sold my PSVR1 5 years ago at a big loss. At the time, I didn't know
that you could train yourself out of so-called "motion sickness" & that SimRacing
results in significantly less motion due to the seating position matching the virtual
position of the body.

Unfortunately I still can't play normal VR games the way I would like, but it has
gotten a lot better & with regular training it would definitely get even better.

In any case, I can only recommend that every driver here at least try VR & even
if you feel really sick, don't throw in the towel straight away.

By the way, you can now even rent VR glasses or buy them second-hand for "little money".

Important : You always have to be on your guard 👁️ against these f...n scammers✌️

I've tried the settings in the YouTube video but no good for me so set back to defaults.
The image is generally OK but not great.
The real problem is the LMU HUD which is extremely small (illegible to be honest).
I can't get anything remotely like the YouTube videos I see online.
Overall very disappointed...

Hi @pcFiNCH85.
Thanks for that... those settings have definitely improved things.
I think that perhaps I'm expecting a bit much from the Quest 2 headset... and my slightly deficient eyesight even with the prescription lenses probably doesn't help.
It certainly given me a great starting point...
Thank you once again (y) (y) (y)

My reason for wanting to get this working is to figure out if I go for a new set of triple monitors or a better VR headset.

Good morning @trichens 🖐️ ,

I'm glad I could help you a little & I hope that you might know someone or someone might offer you the opportunity
to test better VR glasses and/or a triple monitor setup, because more & more sim racers are offering this option to other sim racers.

I wish you many enjoyable & exciting hours of racing, no matter what you decide on in the end.

Best regards from Lüneburg✌️

Do you mind sharing those settings with me? I also have a quest 2 and a 3060ti and I'm struggling to get this game to run well.

Strangely although I get a VR ini file created with the updated settings it never seems to get loaded when I go into so I always have to redo these settings each time. LMU obviously "knows" I'm using the VR headset as the ini file is created and updated.

Hello @Kreb 🖐️ ,

with the settings shown I get a completely stable 72 fps at a maximum resolution of 5408x2752 (1.3)

However, I have reduced the FOV using the two values in the debug tool & currently I am using even
smaller values, namely 0.63 & 0.50, which somehow makes you feel like you are wearing a helmet.

So & after I received the feedback from "trichens", I tried out a few things again & if you only drive
against the AI, much better settings are definitely possible, but everyone has to decide that for themselves.

See these settings as basic values. By the way, you can also achieve a stable 80fps with them,
but everyone has to decide that for themselves. I really hope that I will live to see the day when
we can just connect the VR glasses to the PC & the PC will choose the best possible settings
all by itself, just like on the PS5 & the motto : plug & play

I also hope that with games, at some point you only have to install each game & you can
start playing straight away & YES, I know that it already exists, but it's not 100% widespread yet.

Well, I'm definitely happy for you that you've now discovered VR for yourself & I also hope that you can
also get a stable 72fps with the settings, but I think so, because I still have room for improvement,
but it's always better not to work at the performance limit anyway, but always have a small
buffer & believe me, I'd love to see what's currently possible in terms of VR & LMU,
but step by step ;)

So & now have a good week ✌️

Hello everyone!!! I am a new LMU user and I really like the sensations of the sim, I would like to make the most of VR
I have the RTX 4070 super 16 GB VRAM with the Oculus Quest 2 and I can only see LMU with approximately 36 stable fps, and it is difficult to focus. What can I do? Can anyone help me? Greetings!
