LMU takes forever to load

My LMU takes forever to load; yesterday I tried running an offline race at Daytona, selecting the HY and GT3 classes. I managed to brush my daughter's teeth and get her ready for bed, and when I came back, the game was only 87% loaded. It’s incredibly frustrating—not to mention that you can't save the game at just any moment, only during pit stops. Basically, you either start the race and run a stint, or it’s all for nothing; you can't be expected to wait for the game to load every single time you want to play a single-player match. Another absurd issue is that I’ve never managed to race on the 1-hour daily race server; I always get disconnected. My SR dropped from B3 to B2 because I spent the day trying to join that 1-hour race server, only to get disconnected and lose SR points without even making it into the session. Yesterday was a Sunday to forget. I’m very frustrated with LMU right now.

I don't have any issues with loading. I can be into an offline race in about a minute and a half. Has your loading always been slow or has it become slow recently?

I have noticed loading being a little bit slower since the last update, but nothing serious. Certainly nothing that would last into multiple minutes of extra loading time. I also haven't had any problems with getting into the daily races, and although I have less than 30 total races, I have never failed to get into a race or been disconnected. I wonder if there might be some stability issues with your internet. Are you using Wifi, or a hard connection to your router?

Same here, I literally cannot remember the last time I couldn't get into an online event or the last time I was disco'd. Two things I will say is firstly that my LMU stability and especially loading times seemed to become more effective/quicker when I upgraded my GPU (by as much as my motherboard permitted) and when I doubled my system RAM from 32Gb to 64Gb, and secondly, I run no additional software or telemetry eye candy while racing LMU other than Crew Chief and the software for my wheel and pedals.

My computer doesn't have NASA-level specs, but I run other games—AC, ACC, Automobilista—just fine. When I first installed LMU, it loaded quickly, but after an update in April (if I recall correctly), it became impossible. It definitely takes over 3 minutes; often, I only manage to load in time for Qualifying. Offline mode is even worse; these errors show up in the log:
Check scene file entries for errors.
650.37s Cube.cpp 188: Cube error: Texture 50_26_AFCorse_WEC83_24_AFCorse_WECwindshieldin.DDS does not exist

As you can see, 650.37 seconds is already over 10 minutes.

I don't know why, but most trace txt files are RIDDLED with errors. missing this, non-existant that. Add to that, the game reloads many portions repeatedly and you see the errors multiply. For crashes, we tend to examine the very last lines of a trace.txt. but for slow loading it could be anywhere.
Keep in mind, the first time you load a track, the process is always longer. Some cache files have to be built. So anytime you are racing at a track you haven't used before, it might be best to pre load at least once offline.
And if you have a slower 5400rpm hard drive, you just might be stuck.

Wow, that would be hard to sit through. This is probably simplistic, and you may have already tried this, but have you tried to uninstall the game and then reinstall? Kind of sounds like something may have become corrupted. Maybe worth a try.

Can you move the install to another storage device?
Seems to be very slow reading/writing data. As an example it takes 0.1s to read then write the .json files, which should be instant.

I'm doing this right now, and looking at the responses, it really could be something with the hard drive.

a half dying HDD can indeed get very slow (because of retries)

a simple measurement e.g. CrystalDiskmark could confirm that. (or not)

SSDs are super cheap these days, just make sure it is a reputable seller (i.e. Samsung 870 Evo). In doubt consult your AI to check if it has a DRAM cache. SATA is enough, but for OS and games that load a lot, PCIe\NVMe is preferred if it is within budget.
DON'T USE magnetic HDs anymore, for modern games these are way too slow ...

One thing I only learned recently, turn off windows FAST BOOT if you get a SSD. My Samsung is just a little bit older than LMU and is barely still shown as good in the Samsung app.
