LMU on Linux

To the LMU dev team,

I know that you don't care much about Linux users (yet) but I just wanna say, the 20 percent loading time reduction that I recall you announced is not even close to what I have since the 1.3 update. And I don't mean that in the negative way - you have AT LEAST halved the loading time for me which was really painfully slow before. So, as soon as you solve the teething issues with the new update with some bugs here and there, I will be an even more happier LMU racer. Great work! ❤️

Kind regards,
Björn

GE-Proton10-34-34-LMU-his_fixes is the ONLY version that it works with as far as i know. Used 10-25 before and with 1.3 the gameplay doesn't even start even though you can get to the menus. JacKeTUs released his version just hours after LMU sent out 1.3, he's amazing!

I bought MOZA gear for a few reasons. Good Linux support, fair prices and a plethora of different versions and accessories to choose from. I'm really happy with my choice. My only regret is not buying the CRP2 pedals to begin with, had the SR-P for a couple of months until I upgraded and now I'm really satisfied with the performance. I'm new to racing games, only used to play rally games and with cheap Logitech gear. LMU is so much fun!

I need to find a linux user with SC3 and active pedals to have information on his journey :)
But so happy to see that linux is fully supported by LMU

To be clear, LMU does NOT officially support Linux in any shape or form. Their support pages is clear with the phrasing "Le Mans Ultimate is only supported on Windows machines that meet the minimum requirements. Mac, Linux and Steam Deck are unsupported." I really hope they will at some time, but for now we'll have to live with the fact that the game works really well with with GE-Proton10-34-34-LMU-his_fixes with huge thanks to Steam, Glorious Eggroll and JacKeTUs. But Linux Gaming is really gaining momentum at the moment, so hopefully they will start giving Linux gamers attention as the playerbase grows.

bump
we need linux support for lmu
Native support would be nice indeed but LMU works perfectly fine as is on Linux. All you need is a custom proton version. You can check the guide below. Don't let the wall of text scare you, most of the workarounds have already been included in the game or the custom Proton version, they are there simply for archiving reasons. I made that guide so if you have any questions, feel free to ask :) I've been playing LMU on Linux for almost a year now.

Anyone has tested VR on linux recently?
I did since Oasis driver and my ReverbG2 works on linux (CachyOS). ACC and RRE did work.
GE-Proton10-34-LMU-hid_fixes is used in this log.
GE-Proton10-34-LMU-hid_fixes-vr-bcrypt didn't work either (if i remember it right).

SteamVR is set as default OpenXR and OpenVR runtime.

That's the log from LMU starting in OpenXR mode:
(Log from SteamVR, vrmonitor and vrserver included)

TRACE LEVEL = 2
0.04s TraceLog.cpp 214: Command line: "+XR"
0.04s main.cpp 543: LMU-Retail:1.4130 UTC=xx SteamBuild=xx SteamUser=xx LogGUID=xx

0.04s main.cpp 546: Hardware info: CPU: "AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor" 16 cores Memory: virtual: 64015MB physical: 32008MB
0.05s main.cpp 967: VR init (openXR) failed: Cannot create an XRInstance. Verify your headset is connected.

0.05s main.cpp 972: VR init (openVR) also failed: Unable to init VR runtime: vrserver internal error (124)

16.33s main.cpp 507: Still has 0 bytes allocated in 0 allocations.

Can you try the fork here. This dude did some proper tidy-up of JacketUS's proton which includes some VR related fixes as well. I think V4 is the latest version but check the latest comments as well to make sure.

No luck same behavior.

VRmonitor from LMU(openXR), openVR has same result, also tried to copy included openVR.dll:

More logs.
Seems like for LMU I need to expose OpenXR runtime, with the other games i've tested, it look slike it' snot needed.
so I need to add PRESSURE_VESSEL_IMPORT_OPENXR_1_RUNTIMES=1 to the launch command.

From LMU trace, there are still problems with vrCursor:

8.06s VRUI.cpp 390: D3DX11CreateTextureFromMemory( &device, vrCursorFile->mMemFile.get(), vrCursorFile->mMemFileSize, nullptr, nullptr, reinterpret_cast<ID3D11Resource**>(mCursorTexture.GetPP()), nullptr )
8.06s VRUI.cpp 390: FATAL!!!
8.06s ELSLog.cpp 126: [ELS] Fatal Error 11
8.36s main.cpp 423: onFatalError 11

So I copied open_vr.dl included in custom proton https://github.com/DerekMurray/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/GE-Proton11-6-LMU-1.4-v4

The result is that game closes clean without error log.

After some random VR bugs in my pc, LMU works in VR with:
https://github.com/DerekMurray/proton-ge-custom/releases

I have an HP Reverb G2, AMD GPU and both Envision and Oasis(preview) works.
I´ve had some head position lag.

The other problem I have is that LMU does not recognize a button panel made with arduino promicro (Atmel32u4) and some HID library I don't remember.
I've played with HID_RAW on/off, SDL on/off, some Steam options, regedits unsuccesfully.
It's recognized by ACC and RRE on CachyOS and by LMU on Win. Bad luck.
