LM Ultimate VR thread

Hi, on race weekend after completing practice session I proceed back to garage and click on next session but the game crashes. Are you guys experiencing this? I turned off qualifying so only practice and race.

Yes, I experience the same problem.

VR seems to work decent with noted limitations, using Pimax 8KX

+VR for enable, works fine using standard SteamVR or switch to OpenComposite/OpenXR back/and forth
Canted display supported, same as in rF2
SS possible thru SteamVR or OpenXR settings
Re-center needs manual entry in json file
No AA is possible, make it looks very bad
No menus, only driving
No in-game HUD.
No confirmation about request pitstop or tracklimits (assume they are there)
Some cars do not have brake light, might not be a VR issue.
OpenComposite is missing car shadows, colors seems bit dull compare to SteamVR
Pimax spark bug is still there

Some stutters even if GPU load is below 80%, might be that SS set at 200% (around 5500x4500px/eye) to get rid of jagged lines.
When AA works going back to lower SS should be helpful.

After 118 minutes testing it's was a no-brainer to keep the title even if official VR support would take a while, it's usable in it's current state for being unofficial and in EA.
Did you have any problems with the image when you first started the game? For me, the right lens displays the image normally and the left unfortunately does not, the image is shifted so much that it can not be corrected in pimaxtool. maybe you know how to fix it?

In case anyone else has tried with SteamVR (without OpenXR Toolkit) and the view's wrong and warps on head rotation, for me installing OpenXR Toolkit and OpenComposite and switching to OpenComposite fixed it, and I glad it made me install them as it has a significant performance boost even with the default settings and makes launching/closing games much easier and faster with Virtual Desktop.
Also MSAA on makes the VR image very low res.

The performance was worse than ACC for me so far.
Edit: the performance issue seemed like it was CPU bound but I didn't check the stats, just a guess, because the timing was messy, and if it's true that's weird because there shouldn't be anything too CPU heavy in VR only as it's fine on screen. I have a quad-core up to 3.x GHz CPU.
Update: yep it was CPU too as the timing in solo was fine but still the framerate without supersampling is on par with ACC, while rf2 is much smoother with ultra settings and on par with AMS2/PCARS2.

Quest 3 here working in vr offline. No hud… happy to support the team and be patient. RF2 is the best ffb sim out there. Others don’t come close. Willing to support the team however I can.

Can you please post step by step how did you make it work ? Thanks

Probably the same as everyone else. Google for VR in Le Mans Ultimate and follow one of the 3 or 4 guides on how to get it running. It's not difficult.

I am loosing a little faith, all depends on how sales keep rolling in I think. For some reason there's a problem with MSAA which is possing an issue other wise it would be fine

There are a few other issues:
  • Can't use MSAA/FXAA
  • No HUD
  • No UI in VR when not on track
  • Crash when progressing to next session (if player drove in the session)
  • Crash when attempting to play online
  • The odd crash when passing start/finish line but I don't think this is VR specific (though that's just a hunch)
Anything I've missed?

Well I bought the game because it had listed on Steam VR. I know they removed that later, but this is a big blow if they never implement VR support. I hope they can get it going soon, so far ive done a few ai races and im just trying to patiently wait. Im desperate for a good sim that has online ranked races with decent population but doesn't cost me iracing prices...

FYI. Not sure if anyone has posted on this yet but I was able to complete an online race using VR. The game used to crash when loading the track but it worked for me yesterday. It did crash at the end of the practice but I was able to launch the game and join in on the qualifying.

Started working with the June 10 big update.

Have a look in that thread for some workarounds to be able to do pitstops in VR. Not ideal, but it can be made to work with some effort

Yeah I noticed you can now progress from different sessions offline as well. Previous to the update it would crash when attempting to go from say practice to quali, or quali to race.

With Quest 3 at least, Ive been able to get a simhub leaderboard dash, start it in a window, start LMU, get into a sessions, using quest 3 open another window, select the simhub dash, position and size it to a place on screen and pin it, click back into the game and drive as normal. Depending on the leaderboard you can have laps, position, time, laptimes, etc at least visible so you know what lap and position you are in.

Anyone having issues with Open Composite/OpenXR? It used to work ok for me but now the sim crashes every time I switch into the car/VR view (Quest 3). Will work fine with Steam VR though.

Something maybe changed in the last hotfix?
I’m on a G2 with openXR and still working but I have had a couple crashes now and never before.
Any postprocessing in the toolkit for you? Maybe try disabling that
