AI after today's update.

"There's no such thing as being rear-ended — it's all about not practicing enough, poor lap time fundamentals, weird racing lines, braking points that are way too early, and so on. What I'm most satisfied with in this game is the multi-class racing. I've done a lot of single-player endurance races, and almost never got hit by the AI.
Or, believe it or not, some of us are just as experienced with single player as you are… Rear ending is a thing with AI and it’s gotten worse since the 1.4 update.

I would ask why you were already below the pit speed limit around 20 metres before the line. If I was following you into the pits I probably would have hit you as you were going much slower than necessary, and much slower than I would have expected.
I'm not perfect with pit entries, I've been penalised before for speed being too high entering the pits. Plus in this case my fuel was down to 1% and I was cruising to avoid running virtual energy down to 0%. A lot of cars pit before me on the lap before and I went around for another lap to avoid chaos. What the video doesn't show is the chaos that ensues in the pits when several AI cars pit at once, with cars banging in to each other and performing absolutely ridiculous movements. Irrespective, that Mustang probably wouldn't have slowed down sufficiently before the line anyway. Me being a bit slow on pit entry shouldn't have resulted in what happened.

Yes, rear ending from AI was always a thing. Not that I have experienced it more since 1.4, but I have only did some practice runs since then. What I always found "weird" is that, when I am behind AI, I can always match its braking and stay close behind (or gain a little bit) in that braking zone. But when the AI is behind (after an overtake), it seems like it will brake much later suddenly and rear-end me.

It would have slowed down, because if you were still braking you would have too after getting hit. Doesn't mean it should have hit you, of course.

I do a lot of AI racing on LMU and rear ending is not an issue overall for me. There are parts of the track where AI is more dangerous, but if you learn those during practice session and being extra careful, it is completely fine.

There are other issues with AI which are game breaking at the moment. E.g. AI pitting every lap for some reason sometimes.

Yeah spot on. Occasionally cars seem to be glued to your rear end and then forget their braking zone. You can see it coming but what are you supposed to do when you’ve already braked as late as you can?… Only option is to jump out of the way and get a track cut penalty. Good luck doing an endurance race without getting a drive through with the amount of times it happens. It’s no fun driving through your mirrors either. It’s been a known issue for as long as I can remember (although the devs only state it’s faster class cars rear ending slower ones). I’ve experienced it between any class recently, whether that be Hypercar on GT3 or vice versa. It’s never been tackled and has only gotten worse due to what I believe are the changes in tyre models/physics.

These can of course be track and corner specific too as you’ve stated Metzger, and I’m all for learning their nuances and trying to avoid where they’re particularly bad, been doing that since day one of the sim, but there’s no denying they have gotten worse for me and it’s clear many others this year. It’s still possible to race them and have lots of fun most of the time, but it makes it hard to enjoy a race fully when you’re just waiting for a crash to happen and you’ve done everything you can to avoid it.

I’ve had aggression set to all three settings and while they don’t race you as well in the lowest, it’s the least likely setting to get you rammed. I’ll have to retest that all out soon in case things have changed.

Let me explain why I don't get rammed. I found that in the game, the AI-driven Mercedes AMG always suffers from severe understeer and inexplicably gives up the inside line—like at Imola, Monza T1, and other places. So I adjusted the AI's braking force and braking grip, setting them to about 0.9. After that, the Mercedes' racing line became normal, lap times improved, and I almost never get hit anymore. These settings change the AI's braking performance and braking points. The original three settings, as I recall, were 0.97, 0.98, 0.97—which clearly doesn't work. My settings are: cornering grip 1.0, and the other two 0.9. You can give it a try. Also, I think setting aggression to "Low" doesn't actually make the race easier—the AI will have fewer meaningless battles with each other, and their overall lap times will be faster, making them harder to chase down.Under high aggression, the AI always gets tangled up fighting each other. Under low aggression, they unite against you — yes, that's right. Their will to block you is never set to "Low."

Pit lane accidents are still a frequent occurrence at Daytona. Tweaking the parameters has not helped The main issue is that the inbound and outbound AI keep colliding with each other.

At Daytona Turn 1, some AI lose control and spin around, but then they always drive straight into a narrow side passage and get stuck. This mainly happens during multi‑class mixed races. That's the pit exit lane – it's prone to traffic jams

Sorry but that's just not true. I have several replays to prove it. I keep getting rear ended by hypercars when driving GT3's. I am doing consistent 4:00min laps so not the slowest and with predictable, normal braking lines and distances. There is definately an issue here.

Personally I think its quite arrogant that you feel your driving is above others, that is certainly the way that comes across, and as James has said there is a issue with the AI from not braking correctly always especially with lower classes, and the collision box as well.

Sorry, I spoke too soon. I did some testing, and it turns out that at Daytona it's indeed the case. At Turn 1 and the chicane, the higher‑class AI cars rush and jostle, not only colliding with the player but also hitting the lower‑class AI, causing all sorts of accidents

Because I was running at Imola, I didn't notice that you were talking about Daytona. On Imola and Spa – the two tracks I usually race on – there really isn't any AI collision issue. But at Daytona, I'm sure that problem does exist

Fair enough, I should have said that my laps were at Le Mans so this is across many or most tracks and does seem to have got worse recently.

Indeed it is. I just ran 25 laps in a GT3, practicing for the Coop event against Hypers and LMP2s. Those Hypers are a nightmare. I got hit at least 5 times, mostly at turn 1 but I was also rear-ended off at the chicane.

I just dud 4 hours of SPA ELMS dry race multiclass. Went pretty smooth with almost 0 contact with AI and only 2 cars DNF.

Aggression medium and skill 98. The only noticeable issues with AI was their slow pace near the end of the stints and possibly not double stint the tires. No pit every lap or any other problems strategy wise either. I guess they just still suck at mixed conditions and rain.

EDIT: + AI is ultra fast on cold tires and/or warming them waay too quickly. This one is pretty annoying

I can't agree that this game is out of beta. SP is almost non existent and MP is also full of problems.

Yes the tyre warm up of the AI with GT3 in particular is ridiculous compared to the player. Hypercars on the first lap are pretty good, but then the times they’re able to do (all AI for that matter) on the second lap of first practice on a green track is just silly.

1. Turn off tire wear.
2. Break grip 1.0, Break power 1.0, Corner grip 1.0 (keep these as is).
3. Set aggressiveness to Low. Turn off car damage.Maybe you also need to turn on the tire warmers.

After doing the above, go challenge the AI with the same difficulty level you used before – you'll discover a whole new world.
To be honest, I don't want to do this either, but this is a common flaw of the ISI engine—it has been inherited from rFactor 2 and remains unsolved to this day. Only by doing this will you encounter AI that give their full effort Don't race cars with vastly different speeds together. Let GT3 cars run with P2s — it'll cut down on a lot of rear-end collisions.

How is RF2 for offline racing recently ? Let's say for something more simple than WEC, e.g. touring cars or pcup championship ?

I still use rF2, mainly in concentrated stretches. Race it for a few weeks then let it sit for a spell. Fortunately with the Touring Cars you can bang off each car without incurring the wrath of the LMU reporting. But they never did balance out the FWD cars vs the RWD.
There is still a small group of modders, recently a newer MINI was released along with the Super Formula open wheeler cars from Japan.
